Doxology Originally in Persian by Sadi in Bstän
In the name of Allah, Maker of soul to man, The Wise Who fashioned speech in tongue to man: The Almighty, Whos apt to help Bountiful, Plea and error forgiving, Merciful; Glory Owner! One who turns back of Him, To where or whom is he never finds honour. The heads of the kings though honoured and proud, Drop on the knees in front of [Thou] God. Never does he seize hastily insurgent, Defensive men are not banished discordant.
Suppose waxes His wrath at an ugly deed, Crosses He out, in the end, when you yield. One if gets frayed with father more or mean Father doubtless waxes his wrath to him; And if kin cannot bear a man of their own, Theyll call him alien, he is out thrown; Brisk if the slave be not at the work, Dear not be called by the Master, the rouged; And if you arent kind to your own ally, Ally runs away, lets alone you cry.
If an army forsakes the service of its, The king turns away face of it, and quits: But still the Lord of heaven and the earth Never cuts foodstuff to man since the birth! Being is from one drip lore of His, He veils humbly sins of us, when He sees. The hide of the earth is His Own feast-cloth; Friend of Him or foe even gets a lot.
If Almighty One were to rush oppressor, Who could find quarter to face on the earth? Hes exempt from hint of entire being, Neednt by men His Realm adored, or the Jinn! The thing or the persons attend His command, The sons of Adam, birds, flies and the ant; His Own bounty table remains wide open, Phoenix gets his own portion on mounts often:
Gracious Who fixes affairs and donates, He knows secret and makes being with no aids. His Own is egotism, He is so Superb, For His realm is ancient Essence self-support. Honours fortune, agrees to one be crowned, The next one topples him to fall on ground; Head of one covers with blessed cap of His, Wretchedness rag is but the robe of one else. He changes fire into rose for Friend, Some are led from Nile to fire in the end: If its that, Command is assistance of His, But in next, Command is the Decrees of His.
Evil action is seen by Him, though hidden, Through His Divine boons error is hidden. Menacingly if He draws doom blade, Cherub will fall speechless with no aid. And if He announces free banquet, The Old Nick even wants to have some to eat! Before so great and grace Court of Him, Great ones doff off their greatness often; Great is His Own mercy for helpless, He responses all supplicants and pious.
Grasp of His is vast to un-seen events, Grace of His is wise to un-said events. He keeps in command whole abyss and the height, The Lord of the court of Account and plight; The wealthy never disregard Him to bow, Never can a man reprimand His desire. Pristine, Doer of good and approving all merit, The womb limner is with the pen of the fate.
From east to west caused the sun and the moon To move, and placed on water firm the world: The earth by fever of the shake was harassed, Hammered He the mountain around it so fast. He makes fairy-face out of sperm-drop, Who else has fashioned face from such drop? Places He turquoise, ruby in the rocks, The turquoise coloured twigs adorned with roses. From high cloud one drop Hell descend, From loins brings germ He into descent.
He makes shiny pearls of so tiny drop, From next, He forms stature like Cherub. From His Lore seldom atom is hidden, For Him is the same both open and hidden: He purveyors the substance for ants and serpent, Though they lack feet and strength to attempt. Commanded He Be, soon being took place, Who save Him can alter null into essence? Again, Hell bring him down into the naught, From there He sends him to Doom n plight!
Divine of His agreed by all already, Though at loss to sound His real entity; Beyond His Glory is unknown to you, Beauty of His is immense for view; Not a fancy bird can reach His High Essence, No sense can relate of His high Excellence; The ships by thousands went down into abyss, From them to shore has never reached a piece. Awake I sat at nights but I missed the way, Amazement grasped me saying, rise: Away!
Knowledge of the King compasses whole the earth, Your own check cannot enclose His Grace! The perception has not plumbed His Essence, Image has never reached His Own signs abyss, You can reach to Sahban even more or less, Never can you but reach the Sobhans Abyss; The sacred have urged their ponies up the course, Losing but the race, passed away in groups; A steed cannot be galloped everywhere: There is time you must cast your armor away.
And if one disciple becomes confident, Retuning way is shut for him concrete: Within banquet ones given goblet who By only draught will lose his senses whole. One hawks eyes have entirely been sewn up, Others eyes open, but feathers are dropped. Never made one his way to Korahs jewel; And if did, he found no way out of the well, Ive dived within wavy sea of blood, Never has brought whence one his ship abode;
Desire of you if is crossing the world, Tracing the horse when returning the road! Survey while alone that mirror of your heart, Little by little get serene and bright. Perchance by love of scent you will get delight, Filling you desire for Am I not s unite? You will make your own way thither by quest, From there ascend by Affections assist. Assurance, the veils of the fancies, rip up: Therell not remain screen, but He, Pomp; Brains mount no further believe in roll on, Puzzlement bridles, commanding: Thou whoa!
No one save shepherd went down in this ocean, The only ship who lost him had no motion; The one who from this road has just returned Set out far ahead, but puzzled in the end; Against His Messenger who chooses a way Never will he reach destiny turns away. Do not think, you Sadi, the road of serene You can go without Mostafa is therein!
