{126}: Also [remember] when Abraham said: “O my Creator -Nurturer Lord! “Make this [land] a safe place and a peaceful town and provide its people who believe in Allah Glory to Him in the highest and the Day of Judgment with fruit, [food and other sustenance],” Allah Glory to Him in the highest stated “I will even let someone who disbelieves enjoy [My bounties] for a while. But [remember] then I shall drive him to the punishment of the Fire – and it is a base destination!”

{127}: And when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the structure of the House, [they implored Allah]: “O our Creator -Nurturer Lord! Accept this [service] from us! You are indeed the Knowing Hearer.

{128}: O Creator -Nurturer Lord of us, [please] make us obedient and submissive to You, and also make our offspring into a nation submissive to You. Then show us [the right way of] our ceremonies [around your House,] and forgive us, for indeed You are the Merciful Remorse-Accepter.

{129}: O Creator -Nurturer Lord of us, raise up a messenger from among those [of our offspring] so that to recite and teach Your Statements to people and instruct them the Book and wisdom; and purify them, for You are the Wise All-mighty!”

{130}: And who would turn away from the sect of Abraham except the one who is absurd? For We picked him up in this world, and in the Hereafter, he will be among the righteous.

{131}: When [through the Divine Signs] his Creator -Nurturer Lord Commanded him: “Submit [to live in peace,” he said: “I have submitted [peacefully] to the Creator -Nurturer Lord of the Universe.”

{132}: And Abraham directed his sons [to this Faith,] and so did Jacob his own – as legacy – each one said: “O my sons, Allah Glory to Him in the highest has chosen your religion for you, so do not die unless you are Muslims.”

{133}: Were you [the Jews or Christians, who claim to be the followers of Jacob,] present and witnessing when the death approached Jacob? When he asked his sons: “What are you going to worship after I am dead?” They said: “We are going to worship your Allah Glory to Him in the highest, [that is] Allah of your fathers: Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac, He is the One, and to Him we submit [peacefully].”

{134}: [So do not argue about them, because] that was a nation who passed away! They shall receive for what they did, and you will receive for what you have done. You will not be questioned about what they did, [you are not responsible for them].

{135}: And they say: “Be Jews or Christians in order to be guided [to the Straight Path].” Say: “We would rather believe in the religion of Abraham, the faithful – for he was not of the idolaters.”

{136}: Say: “We believe in Allah Glory to Him in the highest and whatever has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Jacob and their descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus – and also what was given to other prophets by their Creator -Nurturer Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we do submit to Him.”

{137}: So if they believe in such a way that you believe, then they are guided [to the right path to Allah,] but if they turn away, they will fall into conflict. Allah Glory to Him in the highest is sufficient for you in dealing with them; and He is the Knowing Hearer.

{138}: [Say]: [Allah has baptized us by means of faith and monotheism, and the best is] the Baptism of Allah Glory to Him in the highest, and who baptizes better than Allah Glory to Him in the highest? So we are the worshippers of Him.”

{139}: (O Prophet,) say: “Are you arguing with us about [the religion of] Allah Glory to Him in the highest while He is our Creator -Nurturer Lord and so is your Creator -Nurturer Lord; and we are awarded for our deeds and you are awarded for yours – and we are the sincere worshippers to Him?

{140}: “Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants were Jews or Christians?” (O Prophet,) tell them: “Are you more aware than Allah Glory to Him in the highest?”

And who is more unjust than one who hides the testimony that he has received from Allah Glory to Him in the highest? *And Allah Glory to Him in the highest is not heedless of what you do.

{141}: That was a nation that passed away. It will receive what it has earned, and you will receive what you have earned, so you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

……………………………………………………………………………………

* The news that is given in the Scripture about the Prophet’s coming.

{142}: The fool among the people will say: “What caused those (Muslims) to turn away from the Direction [of prayer] they used to face [when praying]?” (O Prophet,) say: “The East and the West belong to Allah Glory to Him in the highest. He guides anyone He desires to the straight path.”

{143}: Thus We made you, [the true Muslims,] as a moderate nation, [not to go too extreme], but to be as witnesses for mankind, and Messenger Peace be upon him to be a witness for you.

And We did not set up the Direction you were following but that We know those who follow Messenger Peace be upon him from those who turn back upon their heels [to idolatry]. This change was a serious matter except for those whom Allah Glory to Him in the highest had guided. Allah will never make your faith fruitless, for indeed Allah Glory to Him in the highest is the Compassionate and Most Merciful to mankind.

{144}: (O Muhammad), many a time We see you turn your face to the sky [hoping to receive a Sign about a fixed direction to face when praying]. So We shall appoint a Direction for you that you will best like; now turn your face towards the Hollowed Mosque (in Mecca), and [let the believers do so] – no matter where you are, turn your faces toward it [when praying]. And indeed those who are given the Book know that it is the Truth from their Creator -Nurturer Lord, for Allah Glory to Him in the highest is not heedless of what you do.

{145}: And even if you bring to the people of the Book every Sign (or Miracle) they will not follow your Direction. Neither are you the follower of their direction – not even any of them will follow one another’s direction. However, if you follow their desires, after the knowledge has come to you, you will indeed be one of the wrongdoers.

{146}: Those to whom We have given the (Divine) Book know him [that his name is Muhammad Peace be upon him,] just as they know their children; yet some of them conceal the Truth while they know [the fact].

{147}: The Truth is [just what has come] from your Creator -Nurturer Lord so do not be of those the doubters!

{148}: And everyone has a direction to face [when praying], so compete in doing good deeds. Wherever you may be Allah Glory to Him in the highest will bring you together [on the Day of Resurrection, for] Allah Glory to Him in the highest is Capable of [doing] everything.

{149}: And from wherever you set out, turn your face [when praying] towards the Holy Mosque (in Mecca). For it is indeed [the Command of] the Truth from your Creator -Nurturer Lord; and Allah Glory to Him in the highest is not heedless of what you do.

{150}: So from wherever you set out, [when you want to pray,] turn your face towards the Holy Mosque [in Mecca]; and wherever you may be, turn your face toward it so that people will not have any argument against you, except for those who are transgressors. Fear them not, but fear Me so that I complete my blessings on you, and you may get [ever] guided aright.
