Nahj-ul-Balagha The sermons and lectures of Hazrat Ali (pbuh)
In Praise of Allah:
In the name of Allah (Who’s) the most Merciful Bountiful!
Praise be to Almighty One Whose real worth cannot be perceived by the eulogists, and Whose blessings cannot be estimated by the greatest reckoners. The original benefactor of Him cannot be paid by the greatest attempters; the Sublime Allah Whom courage, intentions and reflections cannot reach – the lofty and glorious One, Whom wisdom and intellects cannot discover.
The lofty and glorious Allah, the limits of Whose attributes are not defined. There is no any particular or quality specified for Him; He has no limited space of time, nor any long duration be determined to Him. He has settled, fixed and fortified the shaking earth with the pegs of stones and the prodigious mountains.
The first step of religion is Divine knowledge, and the perfection of Divine knowledge lies in conviction; the perfection of confection depends upon the belief in His unity. The perfection of unity is that He should be taken as an absolutely pure and singular unit. Then the perfection of His purity and singularity consists in the fact that He should be held free from all the superfluous attributes, as one who takes Him to be possessed of the superfluous attributes, considers Him, to be similar and equal to creatures; and he who takes Him to be similar and equal to creatures admits duality.
And anyone passing Him from unity to duality is holding Him into two parts; and such a man is surely ignorant and can never reach the state of Divine knowledge. And one who points out that High and Lofty being confines Him; and who questions about where Allah exists, does, as it were, find room for Him and settles Him there. And one, who asks what Allah rests on, does hold Him to be devoid of His independent being and takes Him dependent on another thing.
He is such Power Allah and ever existent, – i.e. has no beginning of His existence –. He exists, but has never come into existence from non-existence.
He is within every thing, but not temporarily (does accompany everything by virtue of His innate eternity. He is away from everything, but not being separated or disconnection – as in case the very preserver of a thing gets apart from it, the thing cannot exist). He is the agent, but not with the help of motion and improvements. He is the protector of everything because nothing in His creation is a self-protecting object. He is singular and alone, as He is not familiar only with one place where to rest. He is never perplexed at the loss of a thing – causing relief to Him; because He does not really need it, His existence is above such thing –.
The Creation of the Universe:
He has created the universe and made the beginning of the creation in a proper form. There was no experiment by which He profited, nor was there any anxiety with which He was affected in the creation of the world; nor was there any care to which He was put in deciding whether He should or should not create a certain thing. When the time came, He put things into motion and mixed up the different objects, as spiritual elements with material bodies and energy with action. He specified the properties of various objects and made certain distinctive marks in dispense – able for them. He was aware of these objects before their creation, knew of their beginnings and ends, and was acquainted with their tendencies and kind.
The Almighty created the wide expanses of the skies, cleft the sides and upper parts of the atmosphere and placed rivers on the upper layer, the clashing waves of which were stormy pervasive. He set water on the back of the hard minds and the breaking hurricanes, and then ordered them to make it flow, at the same time supporting and guarding it. He set the winds to their extremities although the lower parts of them were expansive and the rivers flowed over the earth’s surface. Then, the Creator of the universe created the barren winds, the gusts of which ...................................................................................... …………………………………………..……………………………………………………………… ……………………………… |
